Tuxedo History
The Tuxedo board and management team have an outstanding track record of entrepreneurial success at Alpha Telecom, IBM, processors Wild Card Systems and TNS, and leading Banks. This includes founding, developing, managing and selling a range of market leading prepaid telephony products online, by direct response through retail channels and partners in the UK to over one million users a month.
After a period of intensive platform development, testing and product development Tuxedo launched its first prepaid product in March 2007 – the Blue Diamond Maestro® Card – the first over the counter all-in-one instant issue, re-loadable, card pack to be sold in newsagents across the UK.
The following June, as part of a larger strategy to make Tuxedo the number one prepaid card provider in the UK, several key board appointments were initiated. The next phase of development included a series of partnerships with leading brands.
In the first of these, Tuxedo teamed up with The Sun newspaper in September 2007 to provide a branded “Pay As You Go” MasterCard® for its readers. This unprecedented prepaid programme success was followed by the launch of a co-branded prepaid MasterCard with the News of the World newspaper in January 2008 that offered readers a prepaid card with all the benefits of a plastic card but without the toxic effects of credit.
In early 2008 Tuxedo also announced a revolutionary prepaid MasterCard and Maestro card with an “eccount®” service, meaning customers can access and manage their money 24/7 and use their mobile phones to Top up, block cards and move money from card to card online. A deal between Tuxedo and Monitise in 2008 meant the service was available on any major UK mobile network from over 95% of the handsets in the UK.
In 2008 Tuxedo Money Solutions became the first prepaid card service provider to win the number one consumer marketing accolades on both sides of that Atlantic, with wins in the Paybefore Card Awards in Las Vegas in March and at The UK Card Awards, London in January.
In April 2008 Tuxedo launched The Times Newspaper MasterCard Prepaid Card with a dedicated giant 12 page full size newspaper supplement as well as the STA Travel Cash Card for the UK’s largest student and young persons travel agency network.
Throughout the remainder of 2008 Tuxedo launched the Dolphin MasterCard, the Via Money MasterCard, the WAYN Lifestyle Card, the JB Maestro Card and the Bangla MasterCard.
Tuxedo also launched the corporate payroll and expenses cards in the final quarter of 2008, providing money and time saving bespoke prepaid solutions for businesses.
Tuxedo has built up a portfolio of more than 800 corporations and agencies that utilise its products for payroll loading to replace cash and cheques.
Tuxedo will be announcing more exciting corporate and consumer product developments and partnerships for co-branded and white labelled prepaid cards throughout 2009.
Tuxedo is now widely recognised as having the industry leading technology for prepaid and has an outstanding track record of unmatched marketing success.
Tuxedo has also invested heavily in educating both consumer and business markets on the advantage of prepaid.
